LAC172 Outcome
I have never taken an online course at Marylhurst because the classroom setting suits me. However, if I did take online classes, I feel that what I have learned in this class would benefit me in all of the outcome areas. I can better speak to how I personally interpret the meaning of this outcome. For me, I have learned much from this class, not only technologically but also in the realm of critical thinking of the many varied ways that information is presented. The ethics that are associated with technological advances are similar to the ethics associated with any type of communication. In fact, I feel that ethics in general is one issue that should be discussed in school settings with children from an early age, due to our increasingly complex and connected world. Another aspect that has been reinforced in this class is just how quickly technological changes occur. In the five years that I have been out of the administrative world, much has changed in how people communicate and do business with one another. I am beginning to get an idea of how those changes are altering the nature of business, as well as human, relationships.

Lora,
ReplyDeleteI agree that skills in critical thinking have developed through the course work in this class. I am on the web all the time for work and appreciate the skills I have developed in recognizing a legitimate site from one that would not be citable in an academic paper. That same eye helps me with dependence on information for work.
Ethics for school children as it relates to technology or the world in general should be interwoven in any comprehensive curriculum. I think most schools would say they do teach ethics. But ethics are best taught and caught through example and word of people important in the child's life. Parents have that responsibility primarily.
As far as technology changing so quickly, you're so right! I had someone tell me my two year old computer was REALLY OLD! Well, it better hold out for another few years because I can't afford a new one!! The PC I'm writing on now is eight years old! It should be in a museum, right? The development of society has always influenced human interaction. If you think about the invention of the telephone, I wonder how that was received when first introduced to people dependant on telegraph and letter writing. Progress happens and humankind adapts. Sometimes for the better. Let's keep learning.....
